Bangladesh’s cricket team facing issues while practice
Bangladesh is preparing for an upcoming series against Pakistan. The practice sessions of Bangladesh for the series are hampered due to the political instability in the country. Their training sessions had been disturbed as the government imposed a nationwide curfew.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has reported that they are not sure when they can release the date for the next practice session as the curfew is imposed for an indefinite time.
Bangladesh is about to fly to Pakistan on 17th August for the two-Test series which is part of the ICC Test Championship. The first Test will be held in Rawalpindi from August 21 to 25 while the second Test will be played in Karachi from August 3 to September 3.
In a statement, Bangladesh’s home ministry said that the curfew will remain in place until further notice. “The curfew will be enforced from 6 am on Sunday (August 4) and continued for an indefinite period. A curfew has been enforced in all divisional cities, city corporations, municipalities, industrial areas, district headquarters, and upazila headquarters, including Dhaka metropolitan, until further notice,” read the statement of the home ministry.
Bangladesh was scheduled to start its skill training session at SBNS on Sunday under the guidance of head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, who arrived in Dhaka on August 1. Other coaching staff members, including Mushtaq Ahmed (spin bowling coach), Andre Adams (pace bowling coach), David Hemp (batting coach), Nick Pothas (assistant coach), and Nathan Kelly are also currently in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, a BCB official said that the Bangladesh A team’s tour of Pakistan is still on as per schedule but added that they cannot guarantee anything considering the current situation.
