BCB consults PCB amid unrest in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in discussion with Pakistan amid political unrest

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is consulting the Pakistan Cricket Board regarding the upcoming two-match Test series between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Due to the ongoing riots in Bangladesh, the country is going through a country-wide curfew, and the conditions are unstable. The team can not practice for the upcoming series in their homeland which will begin from August 21. Because of such unfavorable conditions in Bangladesh, PCB granted the team extra days in Rawalpindi, providing all necessary training facilities.

BCB’s chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said Reaching Pakistan early for practice purposes “is part of discussion but we haven’t taken any decision in this regard because we have to talk to the interim government before making a final call”.

The BCB with the interim government, which will led by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus will arrive in Bangladesh on Thursday.

BCB has also declared that Team A will travel to Islamabad on 10th August, Thursday for two four-day and three one-day matches against Pakistan Shaneens. The matches are now rescheduled due to the unstable conditions. The first four-day match will now be played from August 13-16 and the second game will be played from August 20-23. The three one-day games will be played on August 26, 28 and 30.

Cricket in Bangladesh has been resumed after a gap of several days as the curfew was imposed in the country, with the training session of the Bangladesh A team at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday. The Bangladesh A players and management offered prayers and paid respect to the lives lost in the past few weeks during the student-led mass movement, before the start of the practice session in Mirpur. The senior men’s team is expected to start their training session from August 8.

BCB to get in touch with Shakib

Nafees said that they will communicate with all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the coming days. Shakib is currently playing in the Global T20 league in Canada and is expected to be available ahead of the two-match Test series against Pakistan. There have been security concerns in Shakib’s case as he was a Member of the Parliament from the then-ruling party Awami League which was dissolved recently.

“Shakib Al Hasan’s NOC is till August 12. On August 13, he is supposed to return to the country and report to us. He still has two to three matches remaining and we will communicate with him and try to know his plans,” said Nafees.
