India Vs England, Semi-Final 2 Highlights

India will face against England in the second semifinals of the current T20 World Cup on Thursday, 27th June 2024, at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. At precisely 8 PM IST, the game will begin.

India (IND) has won six matches in the event and is now undefeated in the competition. The squad displayed excellent hitting, bowling, and fielding throughout the game. The team defeated Australia, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan in the Super 8 phase of the tournament. 

However, England’s path to the semifinals was a little more challenging because their first match result was nullified; moreover, they subsequently lost to Australia. Then against the West Indies and the USA  Jos Buttler’s team prevailed.

India has a better chance of winning the match based on their performance in the competition, but as England has emerged stronger in the previous matches, it would be difficult to forecast how they will play. 

Match Highlight

  • The toss took place at 8:50 PM; England won the toss and opted to bowl. The match started with India’s inning. Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were the openers and with the opening overs, the players played slow. 
  • In the first over India started with 6 runs from Topley’s over, including a boundary by Rohit Sharma. 
  • Archer took the second over and bowled tightly; the captain hit another boundary. In the third over Virat hit another six but was soon bowled by Topley, scoring 8 runs. 
  • Rishab Pant came on the strike; the middle overs were pretty good. In the fifth over Rohit hit two boundaries against Topley. In the next over, Rishab Pant was caught out by Sam Curran, scoring a single run.  Suyrakumar Yadav hit a six off Jordan. 
  • Soon the match was interrupted by rain when India was at 65/2 in 8 overs. The match resumed after a short delay without any overs being lost. 
  • In the 13th over Suryakumar hit a six and a four off Curran’s over. In the very next over Adil Rashid bowled out Captain Rohit with a googly, ending his inning at 57 runs.  
  • Then in the late overs, India lost two wickets to Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube, both of them were knocked out by Chris Jordan 
  • In the final overs, Jadeja hit a four and collected several singles. In the 20th over Axar Patel hit six but was caught out by Jordan, ending India’s inning at 171/7. 

England’s Innings

  • The team started the match by scoring pretty good runs, in the first over England scored 5 runs against Arshdeep Singh. Buttler hit a boundary off Bumrah in the 2nd over, England at 13/0. In the third over Buttler hit several boundaries off Arshdeep, scoring 13 runs in one over
  • After scoring runs; wickets tumble one after another. In the 4th over Axar Patel dismissed Buttler, England at 31/1. Bumrah in the next over bowled out Salt. Axar Patel then in the 6 th over bowled out Bairstow for a duck, England at 39/3.
  • In the 9th over Kuldeep  Yadav trapped Sm Curran LBW and in the 10th over Kuldeep bowled out Harry Brook, England at 68/6. 
  • The collapse continued in the further overs, in the 13th over Kuldeep Yadav bowled out Chris Jordan at 71/6. Then Jadeja allowed easy singles but tightened the noose. In the 15th over Axar Patel ran out of Livingstone; England at 86/8. Hardik Pandya ran out Adil Rashid in the 16 th over leaving England at 100/9.
  • The final wicket was held by Bumrah, he bowled out dismissing Archer LBW after a review; England all out at 103
  • India won by 68 runs, qualifying for their T20 World Cup final in 10 years. 
  • India’s disciplined bowling and fielding, combined with key contributions from their batsmen, led to a comprehensive victory over England.
