Ishan Kishan to return to domestic Cricket
Ishan Kisan, the famous wicketkeeper-batter, is expected to return to domestic cricket this season after a long gap. Ishan Kishan was sidelined by the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) after the player skipped the Ranji Trophy, as he was solely focusing on IPL that season. Upset with his decision not to play in the Ranji Trophy, BCCI replaced him in International matches and since then Ishan Kishan has missed out on International Squards and did not find space in the reserve slot.
Return of Ishan Kishan
However, this season Ishan Kishan has been included in the Jharkhand State Cricket Association’s (JSCA) list of 25- pre-season probable, signaling his return to his state team. This is a demotion for an international player but a career-saving opportunity for a player who is been sidelined in the international formats.
The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter decided to rejoin domestic cricket after getting advised by national selectors and well-wishers. They suggested to him that his international career might be at risk if he continued with this attitude and skipped domestic cricket. Ishan Kishan had a notable career in international cricket, in the period between July 2021 to November 2023 he played two Tests, 27 ODIs, and 32 T20Is. His international tenure included a remarkable double century and he was also a part of India’s World Cup Squad for the 50-50 format last year.
Past Issues:
- Last season, Ishan Kishan refused to play for Jharkhand and only participated in the IPL, preparing at a Baroda Acadamy.
- His last appearance in the Indian team was in November last year during the World Cup. After that Ishan felt frustrated about being overlooked for matches, leading to his exclusion from the national team and central contacts.
The domestic season is set to begin with the Duleep Trophy first-class red ball competition on September 5 in Andhra Pradesh, though Ishan Kishan might be considered for this match because of his earlier decision not to play for the state.
Kishan may re-enter the nationals once he starts to represent his state.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand has appointed SS Rao as the coach for the upcoming season. Rao, 41, who has played 52 first-class games, succeeds Debasis Mohanty, the coach from last season. Rao’s appointment was reportedly recommended by the JSCA’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).
