NSE appoints new Directors for Bangladesh Cricket Board

NSE nominates New Directors for Bangladesh Cricket Boards

The National Sports Council nominated two new representatives as directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board based on the Philosophy of Jurisprudence on Friday. Earlier, NSC nominated Jalal Yunus and Sajjadul Alam as BCB directors. The constitution allows the NSC to have five councilors on the board, with the authority to appoint two of them as directors in the 25-member board of directors.

In a recent board meeting, where Faruque was elected as the President, both Jalal Yunus and Sajjadul were replaced respectively by Nazmul Abedin and Faruque. Confusions were created as Sajjadul decided not to resign from his post as BCB director after Jalal decided to do so to pave the way for Nazmul Abedin.

Sajjadul expresses his frustration, claiming that NSc’s actions were directly influencing the board’s decision “I am extremely surprised and disappointed. What the NSC did is akin to direct interference in the board’s functioning. It is wholly unacceptable. No one from NSC communicated directly with me. The BCB CEO forwarded a copy of an NSC notice on appointing a new councilor to me on WhatsApp. It was sent to me after the meeting [at Ministry] at 7 PM,” Sajjadul was quoted as saying by Daily Star on August 22.

NSC through a press release on Friday cleared their stance regarding nominating Faruque and Nazmul in place of Jalal and Sajjadul as the rationale behind NSC’s request for the directors to resign is unclear, raising potential concerns about government interference in NSC matters.

“By Article 9.3.2 of the Constitution of Bangladesh Cricket Board, Mr. Mohammad Jalal Yunus resigned on August 19, 2024, among the 05 (five) representatives previously nominated by the National Sports Council in the Councilor category, and Mr. Nazmul Abedin Fahim was appointed as the national representative for the 01 (one) vacant post Nominated by Sports Council,” NSC said in a statement on Friday.
