Rohit Sharma Back as India’s captain for Sri Lanka ODIs

After the T20 World Cup Rohit went on a break and it wasn’t sure about his presence in the upcoming ODI against Srilanka. Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, asked all the players to be available for the upcoming matches as they had already enjoyed their resting period.

On the request of the head coach, Gautam Gambir, Rohit Sharma is set to hold the captaincy in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. It has also kept in mind that these are among the 6 50-over format matches that will be played before next year’s Champions Trophy, so Rohit should not miss the 3-match series. He already has time to rest and will be getting sufficient time to rest after the series.

It is still a matter of discussion who will be the captain for the T20 series against Sri Lanka which will be held before the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. As Rohit has taken his retirement from the T20 format after winning the T20 World Cup, he will not be playing the T20 series.

Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, the other senior players are granted a long break on their request after T20 World Cup. Bumrah and Kohli are likely to be featured directly in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh in September.

The Indian team will play three T20Is and three ODIs in Sri Lanka from July 27 to August 7.
