Shreyanka ruled out from Asia Cup due to injury, Replaced by?

Shreyanka Patil will not continue to compete in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024.

BCCI announced on Sunday that Shreyanka Patil, India’s off-spinner has been ruled out for the remaining matches of the women’s Asia Cup T20 2024 as she injured her left-hand finger last Friday while fielding against Pakistan. 

BCCI has decided this for her best, and after consulting with medical experts it was considered best for her to take a rest and achieve a speedy recovery. This is Patil’s second injury in recent times. This year in March, she had a hairline fracture but the important part is that the player chose to play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and won their first title in the Women’s Premier League. 

The player has been granted rest, keeping in mind the importance of her presence in the upcoming T20 World Cup in September. The player needs to be fit by then as she has been an important character in India’s spin bowling attack. Shreyanka made her debut in 2023 and played a total of 12 T20 International matches. Talking about her performance in T20Is, she has taken 16 wickets with an economy rate of 7.1. Her performance in the ongoing tournament- Asia Cup, opener for the same, took 2 wickets just for 14 runs while bowling against Pakistan, contributing to bowling out the opponent for 108. 

Shreyanka’s Replacement in Asia Cup

Tanuja Kanwar will replace Shreyanka Patil in the Asia Cup. Tanuja has played for Himachal Pradesh and Railways in domestic cricket and for Gujrat Giants in the Women’s Premier League. She is a left-arm spinner all-rounder and made her debut in international cricket against UAE, receiving her cap from Renuka Singh Thakur. 

Tanuja is a very experienced player and is the best replacement for Shreyanka, she has played 267 matches and taken 401 wickets, including 15 wickets from WPL.
